Nike Air Force V Low Throwback Thursday

Recently there has been much debate and talk in the Nice Kicks office about signature shoes from the 1990s thanks in large part to the return of the Air Penny II. Believe it or not, many future Hall of Famers were not lucky enough to enter the league and within a year or two have their own line of signature shoes named after them. Sure, NBA greats became synonymous with their shoes, but for quite a long time only Michael Jordan had a signature line from Nike while the rest represented Nike Flight and Nike Force.

In the 1990-91 season, Big Chuck wore the Nike Air Force V Low on the court while putting up his second best season statistically in Philly with 27.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Barkley also made it to his fifth of eleven consecutive All Star Game appearances that year, but the post season did not go their way. Unfortunately for Charles and Philly, the 76ers had to face Michael Jordan and company in the Eastern Conference Semifinals where the Bulls went on to win their first Championship.

Many of the Nike Force classics from the late 80’s and early 90’s have been returning; however, the Air Force V still has not made its way back. These are the first game worn sneakers we’ve features on Throwback Thursday, so I suppose, when we say that Barkley “wore these” back in the day, that is a literal statement.  Have a look after the jump at some large photos of these HUGE (sz 15.5) shoes.

Lately, we’ve seen a plethora of the Nike Terminators; however, this is the most innovative style we’ve seen yet. For this model, Nike used a waxed cotton fabric invented by British Millerain Co. The 120 year-old British Millerain Co., owned by the Miller Family, is equipped with a mill that produces this rare weather- resistant textile. This sneaker debuts in two colorways (yellow/black and purple/black) and also contains a thick gum sole. Considering the fabric used for these sneakers is very ground-breaking, a detailed care instruction card is enclosed in the package.

Nike continues to collaborate with different companies to produce the most unique projects. Did they hit or miss with this production?

Thanks to Cali Roots for the pics.

Nike Blazer High Premium - Game Select “Atari”

If the above Blazer High Premium look familiar, its because last week an Air Force II was profiled with a similar pattern. Both are part of a pack that takes inspiration from the pioneer of video game systems, Atari and their CX2600 model. The upper features a black leather along with an illustrated wood grain printed leather on the back tab and toebox. The midsole uses a more realistic brown woodgrain that seems to be directly from the CX2600. Another nice detail is the red stitching on the upper that matches the little bit of red found on the controller of the CX2600. No news on the AFII but this Blazer High is scheduled to drop in Asia on October 4th. Via Mita Sneakers
